This page sums up how payments, the booking fee and refunds work for a breeding to Volturi. Your signed breeding contract has the full terms and controls if anything here differs.
Ways to pay
You can pay through the website by card, PayPal or Venmo, or by cash or check. Card and PayPal payments carry a 3.75% processing fee. Venmo has no fee when it is not marked as goods and services.
Payment plans
- Full amount. Traditional contracts: the stud fee plus shipping and collection, all at once. Flat rate contracts: the stud fee only; FedEx shipping is billed at actual cost when each shipment goes out.
- Stud fee now, shipping later. Traditional contracts: pay the breeding fee when you return the contract, and pay shipping and collection 48 hours before you order semen.
- Booking fee only. Pay just the $500 booking fee when you return the contract. The rest of the stud fee must be paid in full before you order semen.
The $500 booking fee
A $500 booking fee is required with every contract and is due when you return the contract. It secures your booking and the rate you signed for, and it is deducted from the balance due. Each payment option above includes it. The booking fee is non-refundable for any reason, including if you change your mind, sell your mare or do not breed. Card and PayPal payments of the booking fee carry the 3.75% processing fee.
Early booking rate
Early booking rates apply to contracts returned with the $500 booking fee by December 31, 2026, or to the first 20 contracts returned with the booking fee, whichever comes first. The booking fee locks in the early booking rate.
Stud fees
Stud fees are not refunded. Instead, Volturi carries a live foal guarantee: if your mare does not settle, produces a stillborn foal, or the foal cannot stand and nurse, she qualifies for a free return breeding the following season under the conditions in your contract. Shipping and collection still apply to each shipment.
Substitutions
If your mare dies or becomes unfit for breeding before she is inseminated, you may use the 2027 breeding for another mare. Breedings do not carry over to 2028.
Shipment cancellations
- FedEx Priority Overnight shipments: cancel by 8:00 AM Eastern on collection day. Later cancellations are charged $300 for collection and supplies.
- Counter to counter shipments: cancel by 4:00 AM Eastern on collection day. Later cancellations are charged $350.
Shipping containers
Return containers by overnight delivery within 24 hours. Late Equitainers are charged $200, Equitainers not returned within 6 days are charged $450, and disposable boxes not returned are charged $50.
Returned checks
A returned check carries a $50 fee.
